In 2020, life nudged me toward a new chapter, one that would take me beyond my country of origin, Cameroon, and into the heart of luxury African travel. That year began with a family trip to Seychelles, an African nation known for its visa-free policy and pristine beaches, perfect for travelers seeking barefoot luxury.
Then came COVID-19. The world paused. And shortly after, my world shattered when my mother passed away. She was my rock, a single mother who gave me everything: love, strength, and the kind of education that empowers you to dream beyond borders. Grief nearly consumed me, and the last memories we shared were created in Seychelles. I was close to depression, longing for an escape, a reset, a way to breathe again.
The First Leap
That’s when a dear friend reached out with an idea: “let’s create a group of like-minded travellers open to exploring Africa.” We had ten months to save and plan and in September 2022, we travelled to Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania for twelve days. It felt like a homecoming and a new beginning all at once.
Fast forward four years, I have now visited 14 African countries, each one offering something unique and unforgettable. The thrill of adventure, swimming at the very edge of Mosi-oa-Tunya, where Victoria Falls roars with untamed power and mist kisses your skin, to the wild serenity of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Africa continues to surprise and inspire me.
Traveling within Africa has been more than adventure, it has been therapy, discovery, and a celebration of identity. I laughed, cried, healed, and grown. And I’ve learned that even if I return to the same country more than once, there is always something new to see, feel, and love.
Advice for First-Timers
Start somewhere. Whether it is the beaches of Zanzibar or Cape Town, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, or the deserts of Namibia, Africa will meet you where you are and take you where you need to go.
